Please join us on Black Friday* – the day after Thanksgiving, Friday the 25th – for Bird & Brew, our annual Beer Bust and Holiday Feast for those who had no proper Turkey Day the day before, and for those who did but want another one, out of a deep commitment to wretched excess. This will be our last Bird & Brew in the Bay Area, so don’t miss it!
The place is the same as usual: the Bear's Lair Cave at 100 Derby Alley (520 Taylor) in the Theatre District of Downtown San Francisco.
The time is a little earlier than usual: guests are welcome starting at 3:00 PM. Dinner should be served somewhere between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM. We hope to close up shop by 10:00 PM.
As always, we'll provide the place, some beer, some wine, and a few pre-dinner munchies. We'll also provide turkey(s), a couple of sweet potato casseroles. Everything else – mashed potatoes, dressing, cranberries, vegetable dishes, soft drinks, desserts, and other pre-dinner munchies – we’re counting on you to bring. We welcome leftovers from Thanksgiving feasts held the day before, as well as things you specially make yourselves, and things you stop and buy on your way to Bird & Brew.
Bird & Brew is the only Beer Bust to which you're asked to contribute anything other than your presence. It's a potluck, but not fully a spontaneous order. Suzanne will coordinate the list of who's bringing what, and make sure that everything we need gets brought. Please let her know if any unexpected development should make it impossible for you to bring what you agreed to bring. We’re especially in need of people who’d like to arrive early (before 3:30 PM) and can bring pre-dinner munchies – chips, sushi, other finger foods. Contact Suzanne – suzanne@bearslair.net – for details.
And please let us know, as soon as is convenient for you, if you plan to come. If you don't like using E-vite, drop Suzanne a line: suzanne@bearslair.net
We look forward to seeing you.
*The day after Thanksgiving, one of the biggest shopping days of the year and the official kickoff of the Christmas shopping season, is commonly referred to as Black Friday – a reference to the days when accounting records were kept by hand and red ink indicated loss, while black ink indicated profit. Black Friday was the day when retailers saw their bottom lines go out of the red and into the black, as holiday sales made their businesses suddenly profitable.
